I had to chime in here...he was convicted in 1981...he had over twenty years of appeals, hearings, change of lawyers, etc... The reason it takes some of these folks so long is so that every process(mostly lawyers getting $$$) is exhausted. Can't wait...hardly...more like wait too long and cost taxpayers too much in the process!

And as far as what I said, no, you totally misread me. It is not a financial issue. It is about the impact Tookie Williams has on gangs in LA. He is a guy, murderer or not, who at this point, can make a difference in preventing future gang violence.

esn212, I see your point, but Tookie Williams was not the one to be a role model in the fight against future gang violence. Its one thing to be a former gang member who has admitted and owned up to his mistakes and then dedicate his life to the prevention of gang violence but He was convicted of 4 murders and he claims he was innocent. In fact, the governor spent a long time going over all the facts of this case when he could have just stayed out of it and denied clemency without hearing the evidence. After close examination the evidence still overwhelmingly proved he did it. That is primarily why his request for clemency was denied. He claims he was reformed and redeamed, but never even owned up to his crimes. This was all just a futile smokescreen to spare his own life and he probably wouldnt give two shits about modern gang violence. And by the way, if he was able to kill 4 people for only a few hundred dollars, what else did he do that never went punished for?

ok first off how would it be cheaper to keep someone alive then to kill them? and second im not saying kill the man because its cheaper im sayin he is a convicted murderer he didnt deserve to live anymore hes lucky he got to live as long as he did. and one more thing. maybe i misunderstood this but didnt he help start the crips? if he didnt start the damn gang in the first place there would be no crips to worry about rioting or whatever the hell else those fuckin idiots do

Hmmmm...things get heated up here a bit.
And just to give my $ 0.02 about the subject...I oppose the death penalty.
Killing this man doesn't bring the victims back to their families and up until the end Tookie claimed that he is innocent and did not commit the crimes.
Is there a strong evidence that he actually killed those people? Really? Evidence as valuable as in the West Memphis Three trial?
Life without parole would have been imho a way smarter move in this case here...
But your mileage may vary on the subject and I respect that...just wanted to voice my opinion on Tookie's case and death penalty in general...

Oh...btw...Mike told me that one of his favourite movies is "In Cold Blood" (of which Steve Earle said that it caused him nightmares) which I had with me as a book when I bumped into Mike at one of Social D's Shows here in Germany...so...it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out Mike's point of view on the death penalty...

it took 20 years for this guy to get what he had coming to him. wonder if the familys of his victims finally have closure. If someone murdered a member of my family or a close friend you can damn sure bet i'd want them to fry after a fair trial and 2 appeals.
how about that sick fuck "btk" serial killer. he deserves the death penality more than anyone and won't get it.
